A winding journey to pilates
I would like to share with you how it all started.

A long time ago, I mean, very long time ago, from as far back as I can remember, I wanted to be a vet. And as you may have guessed, I didn’t follow that dream. Instead, I applied for physiotherapy and here I am, passionate about human body movement.

Moving to Australia in 2006, I couldn’t practice physiotherapy due to the language barrier, so I went to English school and did some work in a carwash, then in a delicious Indian Restaurant as a kitchen hand. Not long after, a friend of mine got me some cleaning shifts with one of her clients.

Things do not happen accidentally. At that time my English was starting to improve, so, as you know, liking a good conversation, the owner of the place I was cleaning started to ask about my life back in Brazil. When I mentioned that I had a degree in physiotherapy she didn’t hesitate to introduce me to her physio. Keeping my cleaning jobs, I started massaging at the physio practice, although, my massage skills were limited to Shiatsu technique and Trigger Point and it wasn’t what the clients were looking for.

I wasn’t getting as many clients as I wanted, so I found a massage school that would have flexible hours and a good curriculum. I had great teachers there, especially the sports massage teachers Kathryn and Penny, two great physiotherapists sharing their teaching. Through Kathryn’s invitation, I ended up working in the same physio practice as both of them alongside other great physios too.
In the practice, all of the physiotherapists treated their client with Clinical Pilates, and in no time I was assisting them in the rehab program until I had to go and do the course myself.
The Clinical Pilates course one of the physios recommended was only run in Melbourne, so I booked it in.
